Watchmen

This past weekend, Eric and I went to see Watchmen at the IMAX with a couple of friends. I have not read the book, but really want to. However, this was one of those times when I didn't quite feel like I had to read the book, and really wanted to see the movie. I even took a nap before we went, since we went to the 9:40 movie and we knew it was 160 minutes.

The movie had me hooked from the beginning. The music used in the opening montage was perfect. The storyline made the moviegoer think. There were so many small details that I noticed, and probably a lot more that I didn't notice. I had a lot of moments where I thought "What if this really had happened?"

I enjoyed this entire movie. I didn't feel like it dragged at any part, and literally wanted to see it again after it finished (at 12:30am no less!). I would highly recommend it to everyone. I have the book requested from the library and am looking forward to reading it!

I saw the Jimmy Kimmel show when he interviewed Billy Crudup. Billy's character was supposed to nude throughout the film. And I read a newspaper review that said there was a graphic sex scene. Some people have been walking out of this film. It's not tame like Batman or X-Men.

Sorry, that should have read, "...supposed to be nude throughout..."

You're right Jennifer - it's rated R for graphic violence, sex, language and nudity. It's quite a dark story.

I wouldn't necessarily characterize the current Batman movies as "tame". They've been pretty violent, but in a different way than Watchmen is.

That being said, Watchmen is NO place for young children. I remember when I saw Spiderman 2 at a late show, there was a 3 year old in the theater. Sigh, luckily, that didn't happen with my viewing of Watchmen.

I enjoyed the film too, Angela. I did read the graphic novel before seeing the movie (finished it the day before seeing it, in fact!). I was glad I did--it brought to light certain aspects I hadn't been sure about.

I agree with your comment about Batman. The last one especially was anything but tame. This one was different, as you said. It definitely deserved the R rating it received.
